The history of the building
If Walls Could Talk …
Salzburg's first congress centre, the 'Kongresshaus', was built in the 1950s. Salzburg citizens were very fond of their congress house, which mostly hosted society balls.
It was eventually accepted, even by the most nostalgic guests, that the building was past its prime and struggling to meet the growing demands of contemporary conference organisations and audiences.
Off to Pastures New
The Kongresshaus was demolished in the autumn of 1998, with construction works on the new five-storey building commencing at the same location the following spring. Designed to accommodate up to 2,500 guests, the new congress centre is a visual spectacle, with features such as generous glass and steel façades, spectacular interiors and lush gardens, as well as the overall quality of the materials used throughout the building.
The New Salzburg Congress
The new Salzburg Congress opened its doors in June 2001. Placing a distinct emphasis on environmental sustainability with Solar panels on the roof generating substantial green energy, Salzburg Congress is the ideal partner for renewable energy and environmental conventions.
